As a freshman in high school, his math teacher who would later become his wrestling coach. Convinced him to try out for the wrestling team because they needed “little guys.” Unknowling and not so willing, stumbling into the wrestling room saved his life.
With a rocky start as a freshman going 0-12, the Oregon native's dad had embedded the concept of not quitting something once you start. Making a return sophomore, junior and senior year, the skills and confidence grew which led him to a state title in his final year or high school.
A failed attempt at Boise State University led him back to his hometown where the fire of competition continued to grow. After a few years of oddball jobs he stumbled his way into local MMA gym Ricky Reynas MMA.
Catching on rather quickly at the age of 22 the rest is history. 8 solid wins, a couple hard learned lessons and a regional championship belt at Front Street Fights He found himself knocking on the door of the UFC.
